Omri Goren
Conversing With Mari Ishikawa
The mask deals with questions concerning identities and fasteners as well as different and sometimes contradictory encounters. Horizontal and vertical lines are used to dissect the face into smaller parts, containing the "quotes" of different people from different places. With this mask, Goren explores the relationship between his work and his grandfather’s. With the face as a vessel, delicate fabrics collected from around the world and paintings painted by the creator's grandfather which depict harsh identities come together in a fine goldsmithing work that works in unison to create a unified and harmonious whole. In a way, one can describe this work as a map, as a peephole into one's soul, as an opportunity to see and understand the power struggles between the two.
