JEWELRY
Artist Statement
As a 'coin-smith', coins are the sole material I use in my non-extractive conceptual Jewelry practice. By readjusting the value of coins, I have found a natural focus making 'contemporary crowns'. In the case of Great Britain, coins memorialise the English monarchy, the ruling class, and the legacy of colonialism that follows them. I am interested in the redistribution of the monarchy's wealth and power. I graduated from CSM with a BA in Jewelry Design, and am currently Artist In Residence at Glasgow School of Art. For this exhibition I present Headpieces to Wear to a Funeral: Seven Headpieces for a Week of Mourning.
