Artist Statement
I perceive the garden as a personal place; a private space defined by its enclosure, so that it may be protected and self-determined. The fence is not merely a division, but a boundary of care. Boundaries appear as necessary gestures that allow for growth, resilience and flourishing both of the plant and of the self. They define where the outside ends and where the inside begins, forming a liminal space between the private and the public, the protected and the exposed. With reference to gardening tools, I create forms, new tools of delineation that allude to plants and flowers. They function symbolically as acts of care and selfprotection.
