Elpida Diakopoulou
JEWELRY
Artist Statement
Elpida’s practice is rooted in an interest in sustainability and in the hidden potential of everyday materials that are usually discarded. She is particularly drawn to the inherent qualities of common aluminium objects, which she selects, cuts, transforms, and reassembles into new formations. Through processes of repetition and gradual expansion, her works often develop into textile-like structures before arriving at their final form. Organic and continuously evolving, the pieces explore the relationship between positive and negative space, light and shadow, folding and unfolding. Some forms appear to spiral freely outward, while others seem held in tension and restraint. Her work invites renewed attention to overlooked materials, while reflecting a view of things as constantly shifting and unfinished — forms in continuous transformation, existing as unresolved works in progress.
