Mari Ishikawa
JEWELRY
Artist Statement
RE:BIRTH 0-1 To disappear, and to remain in memory. The former, it seems like the fate that nature imposes on all living things, while the latter would seem to be a countermeasure derived by humans living this destiny. But the relationship between the two is not that simple, and could even be the other way around. Nether 0 or 1: a non binary view of life and death. Corals that have died due to the deterioration of the marine environment. The thing that have lost their life become object. The shape of these „living thing“ was digitized and reborn using recycled plastic made from the trash that took their life. Object bone from memory made new story by becoming jewellery. Could this really be called rebirth? When it is touched as jewelry, it spins a new story. In fact, this may be called true rebirth
