Frans Beelen

JEWELRY

Frans Beelen creates unique pieces of jewelry—comfortably wearable ornaments crafted from fabrics, beads, minerals (both polished and unpolished), shells, and other found materials. Through her work, she seeks to enhance the self-awareness of the person who wears it. The way each piece rests on the body, and its dialogue with the wearer’s skin, gaze, posture, and manner of dress, creates an intimate interplay in which jewelry and person mutually reinforce one another. In Beelen’s work, art and functionality are inseparable. Even when detached from the body, her jewelry stands as a complete work of art—an object inviting the viewer’s gaze to linger and wander.
