Katerina Glinou
JEWELRY
Artist Statement
The collection Afraid To Bloom explores the relationship between the desire to stand out and the fear of being exposed. Drawing from my own unease, restlessness, doubt, and anxiety I address the viewer with a question: Do you need to be perfect in order to step out there?. In an era filled with images enhanced by artificial filters and constand advice promising eternal health, youth, and perfection, each of us is called to realize that we are here to live only once, not perfectly, but as fully as we can with the means we have. For this reason, I chose simple materials such as paper, tree bark, and bronze to create organic forms inspired by the process of a flower emerging from the soil. The final objects - jewelry pieces - aspire to relate to the body that wears them, rather than merely adorn it.
