Isabel Wang Pontoppidan
JEWELRY
Artist Statement
In the Chinoiserie Series, Isabel explores the complex interplay between Chinese aesthetics and their Western reinterpretation. Drawing from Song Dynasty porcelain, renowned for its refined simplicity, the work reflects on how these forms have been recontextualized and consumed within Western visual culture. Through hand-carved and cast silver rings, the artist reclaims and repositions this aesthetic language, transforming it into intimate, wearable gestures. The pieces become vessels for identity — negotiating ideas of representation, appropriation, and the experience of becoming both subject and object.
