‘Tradition Re-Imagined’ Exhibition:

@CVAR -  Severis Foundation,

285 Ermou Street, Nicosia 1017

Tradition Re-Imagined invites artists and viewers to explore how garments have long acted as storytellers of Cypriot society — silent yet powerful markers of identity, class,
and resistance. From the richly layered saya and Ottoman bindalli that once signalled status, to the tailored European silhouettes adopted during British rule, clothing has shaped and reflected the island’s social evolution. Far more than adornment, dress became a visual language through which Cypriots expressed belonging, aspiration, and dissent. This exhibition aims to bring to life these relics of the past as dynamic cultural artefacts through contemporary visions and creations. By placing traditional
garments and contemporary responses side by side,Tradition Re-Imagined highlights Cyprus’ local heritage.

‘Warped’, @ArchTube,

266 Ermou Street, 1017 Nicosia

Warped comes from the Old English weorpan, meaning “to throw” or “to twist,” rooted in the Proto-Indo-European verb for bending or turning from the straight. In weaving, the warp is the set of vertical threads held under tension as the base of a fabric — the structure onto which the weft is woven. To be warped can mean both “shaped by the threads of tradition” and “distorted, twisted, reimagined.” This title reflects our vision: taking the strong verticals of heritage and pulling them in unexpected directions, bending the familiar into radical new forms.
