Our team invites you to participate in the 1st edition of the event:
JELO6 Project / CYPRUS
with the theme:
feel.embody.create

Join us in exploring how the conscious use of
our bodies and our five senses plus kinesthesia,
allows us to self-express in vibrant ways,
actively participating in the social, cultural,
and spiritual evolution of our communities
while safeguarding the treasured
legacy of our past: our crafts, applied arts,
traditional making techniques, natural motifs,
and naive expressions.
MORE ABOUT OUR THEME

In a world that often prioritizes the mind, knowledge and the perfection of our tools, we tend to overlook the significance of our bodies and sensory experiences. Jewelers, craftsmen, and artists are uniquely privileged to work primarily with their hands and bodies. Ideas are powerful, and inspiration fuels our creativity; yet without rhythm, movement, and the coordination of our limbs, as well as our interaction with materials, the magic of creation cannot happen. It is through our tangible experiences that we bring our visions to life.

We live in an era where change is the only constant. Technological advancements are rapid and they have a great impact on our lives. This moment in space and time presents us with a unique opportunity: to step into the future consciously, utilizing all the tools and knowledge we have inherited. Tradition has paved our paths and shaped who we are. While AI may seem enticing, it is essential to remember that without an understanding of the past, no advancement is possible. Without progress, the future remains uncertain. So, let’s honour our past, our heritage, in whatever way resonates with us as artists!

Cyprus boasts a rich tradition in crafts that reflects its diverse cultural heritage and history. The island has long been a crossroads of civilizations, which has influenced its artistic expressions. Traditional crafts such as pottery, weaving, lacemaking, and silversmithing are deeply rooted in Cypriot culture, showcasing the skills passed down through generations. Each craft tells a story, often drawing inspiration from the island's natural beauty and rich folklore. Today, Cypriot artisans continue to observe these time-honored techniques, while infusing them with contemporary creativity, ensuring that this significant legacy thrives for future generations.

Together, we can shape the future, breathing new life into the old processes, patterns, objects and artifacts, whilst respecting the symbolism and the socio-historical significance they carry, contributing to heritage preservation, artist empowerment, and the promotion of ethical craftsmanship.

Jewelers, Ceramists and small-scale Sculptors of all levels, from aspiring students to seasoned professionals, are warmly encouraged to embrace this opportunity to share their creativity and passion.
