Ralph Parks

Ralph Parks is a self-taught carpenter and wood carver with the simple intention to make meaningful functional objects. My practice is usually a combination of imitation and transformation. Recontextualising recognisable forms and styles, utilising their connotations or transforming them to find new ideas. Often focusing on abstracting and reforming historic and religious design to create something that feels new and very familiar simultaneously. I believe objects made with intention have the potential to affect meaningful change in the world, that's how I approach each endeavour, with the hope of bringing a moment of meaning to those who might interact with it.
